In combination with the ever-present constraints of reduced budgets and limited resources, there is a real temptation to apply virtual, augmented, and mixed reality as a one-size-fits-all solution to reduce live training. But how do you know if those are the best choices and if they indeed improve learning versus negatively impacting it? Selected as a Best Paper Nominee by the Education Subcommittee at I/ITSEC 2021, the framework supports the decision-making of the use of immersive technologies to increase the potential of preventing loss of training effectiveness and maximizing the potential benefits of increased student performance and program efficiency. Developed at the USAF Air University, the methodology has been implemented by the Air Education Training Command 19th Air Force unit with impressive results.
